Our VEX IQ program was introduces in 2019 to our 6th grade students, but, starting in 2021 we are moving this to our 4-5th Grade Students. In the VEX IQ program, students will work with the VEX IQ building system to create a robot to achieve the game challenges. Students will build and program the robots to work both autonomously (using only robot code and sensors) and student operated using controllers. Teams will compete in a League environment with other local VEX IQ teams. Teams will also compete at several qualifying events that will give the potential for advancement to the State Championship.
Students build robots using the VEX building system. The parts are interchangeable and can be assembled in many configurations. The students will work with these components to build a robot chassis and all of the added mechanics to achieve the game tasks.
The Engineering Notebook is an extremely important part of our team that tells the journey that the team takes throughout the season and the year. Our Engineering notebook will have daily journal entries where the students will create entries of the work that they did, the failures, the successes, the learning, and more. All students on the team help with the entries and updating all of the team information.
Students will program the robot using VEXcode Blocks, a programming style based off of Scratch. Students will program the robot by mapping controller buttons to robot motors and routines. Programs for direct control will be used for Student driven robot challenges. Students will also program Autonomous motion for the robot to allow it to run on it's own for Skills Challenges. Programming will use various sensors, motors, gyros, and more to achieve this task.
